1. What we collect and why

• Newsletter sign-up. Your email address, the date you signed up, and which free guide you requested (for example the Xacobeo 2027 guide or the patch guide). We use it to send you the guide and, if you stay subscribed, occasional emails about the Camino, the book and related content. Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email or by writing to us.
• Email you send us. If you write to beata@caminocrazy.com, we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to answer you and for our records. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in replying.
• The Camino type quiz. The quiz runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are not sent to us or stored anywhere.
• Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard technical data (IP address, browser type, pages requested, time) in server logs for security and to keep the site running. These logs are kept for a limited period and are not used to identify visitors.

2. Cookies and similar technologies

• This site does not use advertising cookies. It may store small preferences in your browser (for example whether you closed a panel, or your cookie choice); these never leave your device.
• Google Analytics (only with your consent). If you allow “Analytics” on the cookie banner (or click “Accept all”), we use Google Analytics 4 to see how the site is used: pages viewed, approximate location (country and city), device and browser type, and how you found us. It sets cookies named _ga and _ga_1YX77SP8N2, which last up to 2 years. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. If you decline analytics or ignore the banner, no analytics cookies are set and Google receives only anonymous, cookieless signals that cannot identify you. Legal basis: your consent. You can change your choice at any time: cookie settings.
• Meta Pixel (only with your consent). If you allow “Marketing” on the cookie banner (or click “Accept all”), we load the Meta Pixel from Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. It records which pages you view here and whether you confirmed your newsletter sign-up, so we can measure our Facebook and Instagram ads and show them to people who have visited the site. It sets a cookie named _fbp, which lasts 90 days. Meta may link this information to your Facebook or Instagram account and use it for its own purposes under Meta’s Privacy Policy; for collecting and passing the data to Meta, Clip-on Limited and Meta are joint controllers. If you do not allow marketing, the Meta Pixel is not loaded at all. Legal basis: your consent. You can change your choice at any time: cookie settings.
• Amazon affiliate links. caminocrazy.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and the Amazon EU Associates Programme. When you click a link to Amazon from this site, Amazon places cookies on your device so that a qualifying purchase can be attributed to us. We receive a small commission at no extra cost to you; we do not receive your name, address or payment details. Amazon’s use of cookies is governed by Amazon’s Privacy Notice.
• Embedded content. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which may log your IP address when the font files are requested. We do not embed social media widgets or video players.

3. Who else sees your data

• Our email sending service, which stores newsletter addresses and delivers our emails on our behalf, under a contract that limits its use of the data to that purpose.
• Our web hosting provider, which stores the site and its server logs.
• Google, which provides Google Analytics on our behalf under its data processing terms — only if you accept analytics cookies.
• Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd, which operates the Meta Pixel — only if you allow marketing cookies.
• No one else, unless the law requires it.

Some providers may process data outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on standard contractual clauses or an equivalent lawful transfer mechanism.

4. How long we keep it

• Newsletter addresses: until you unsubscribe, or until we close the list. Unsubscribed addresses are kept on a suppression list so we do not email you again by mistake.
• Email correspondence: up to 2 years after our last exchange, unless we need it longer to meet a legal obligation.
• Server logs: as set by our hosting provider, typically a few weeks.
• Google Analytics data: 2 months, then deleted automatically.
• Meta Pixel data: kept by Meta under its own retention rules; the _fbp cookie expires after 90 days.

5. Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law (UK GDPR / GDPR) you can ask us to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Residents of California and some other US states have comparable rights, including the right to know what we collect and to request deletion; we do not sell personal information. To exercise any of these rights, write to beata@caminocrazy.com. If you are in the UK you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk); in the EU, to your local data protection authority.

6. Children

This site is written for adults planning a long walk. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us an email address, write to us and we will delete it.

7. Links to other sites

We link to Amazon, to the Pilgrim’s Office and to other sites we find useful. Their privacy practices are their own. Read their policies before you hand over any data.

8. Changes

If we change this policy, the new version appears here with a new effective date. If the change matters for newsletter subscribers, we will say so in an email.
